Quadrantid Meteor Shower January 2012 Expected To Dazzle Tonight
Tonight we can see the first Meteor Shower of the year 2012.It would be clear enough to see like the Quadrantid Meteor Shower іn 2009.It is expected to peak tonight, with some forecasts of 100 meteors per hour at the height of the ‘shooting stars’ display. The peak of the Quadrantids will occur at around 2 a.m. EST (0700 GMT) on Jan. 4.Lasting for several hours, observers can expect the Quadrantid meteor shower to produce as many as 100 shooting stars each hour, according to NASA.
A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate from one point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth’s atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories. Most meteors are smaller than a grain of sand, so almost all of them disintegrate and never hit the Earth’s surface. Intense or unusual meteor showers are known as meteor outbursts and meteor storms, which may produce greater than 1,000 meteors an hour.
